It's getting done, border by border! Ambrosina says it looks like a jar of candy. No calories or sugar in this though, much healthier! Now I have to decide what comes next. I think I need some more blue in it.

I also got the hand sewing done on these. I have a heaping tub of stuff waiting for the things that need to be finished by hand and so I decided I had better get down to it. I don't really have the space down here to leave things sitting around, once they are finished I can put them away. Or give them away if I find a little girl who still plays with dolls which doesn't seem to be too common. Most families we know have boys anyway, not too surprising since we have boys.

Sammy wants a kitten so bad that he asked his mother if he kept his room clean for a month if he could have a kitten and she agreed. He has been very diligent, I don't know why people say kids have short attention spans, I've never seen that. He is almost two weeks into the project and he is very unhappy with Phillip because Phillip won't pick up after himself unless told so Sammy has been doing double duty. There is no way he is going to mess this up. Good for him!

Anyway, I am pleased with what I got done this morning and I have all afternoon for some more hand sewing, that is a pleasant prospect.

Putting together the next border.
And I got it on, except the bottom one is upside down which puts green next to green and pink next to pink. I should change it, will I? I don't know, it depends on how much it "bugs" me. Not a lot at this point. Then next border will be Ohio Stars again.

We have an appointment with a lawyer tomorrow, so that's one less worry.

My kidney function is up after going changing my diabetes medication, that's encouraging.

And the weather is warm, we had the door open to the sun! I can live with that. The cats have been out on the back porch all day laying in the sun, I've had no help from them all morning so I can't blame them for the border I put on upside down.

It's a nap for me this afternoon, I've a headache and sleep seems to be an awfully good idea right now.
I'm looking forward to starting on the next border in the morning, I am having so much fun with this quilt.

These were pink and green strip sets I sewed together a long time ago to make nine patches. I was going to make a nine patch border for the medallion quilt I'm working on, but realized that the nine patch would be lost so I am turning the border into a pink and green checkerboard. I finished cutting them this morning and then we had to run errands so I lost most of the morning after that.
I got a few sewn though.
I should be able to finish the sets of two tomorrow. After that I will know if I have enough or have to make some more strip sets before I can finish this border.

Things look a little cluttered on the sewing table. I had planned to get everything put away this morning, but had to do errands instead. Well, we all have days like that.

I have about 6 quilts in the UFO tub. Last count was eight. I am getting there. Only ten tops waiting to be quilted and that is even better. I feel like I am finally catching up. I am afraid when I go through some more tubs down here I will find some more UFOs. Or Ambrosina might when she finishes the attic.

It was warm enough that she's cleaning off the back porch. I did a little sorting underneath it. Still have a lot of junk though. I don't know where it all comes from. I suspect some of it is stuff that David was supposed to put away and he just stuck it out there until the "later" that never comes. Anyway that's always something I can deal with "later" myself. It's time for lunch now.

I decided I didn't like the way I had it yesterday and took the border off. After I had put the solid inner border on I didn't have enough Ohio Star blocks with the same background so I put some with dark background in the corners. The result is much better. Trying to mix fabrics from 30 years ago, with fabrics from 20 years ago, with fabrics from 10 years ago, to fabrics I got recently is a little tricky. Always interesting though. The colors are a little washed out under the flash.

Next I have some pink and green nine patches that I started a long time ago that I will use in a border. I used to make a lot of medallion quilts but haven't for a long time now. I had forgotten how much fun they are. When I found the feathered star blocks it seemed a perfect time to make another one. I have five blocks left and I am not sure how I will use them yet.

Well, we had our two days of Spring. It's cold and rainy, but at least it's not snowing. The western part of the state is getting snow and I am glad we don't live there!

We had Spring yesterday, and today! Yippie!!!!

We got the car running, sort of. There are at least 3 problems with it and we can't afford to fix it. We can't leave the battery hooked up or it won't start again until we unhook it and then hook it back up. At least we can do short errands. I went and ordered the part for the sewing machine today. When I got home I didn't get a pin pulled out in time and broke the needle so I can't use Julia Juki until the part comes.
The needle clam screw broke right off last time I changed the needle. Also the thread guide that is on it had broken off previously so it was time for a new one anyway.

So I switched over to Brunhilde the Viking. She's not as good for piecing as Julia but she is a wonderful machine for other things.

I am finally getting around to finishing the Feathered Star blocks I found in the attic last year.
I'm not sure I like that. I'll have to think about it. The next border planned is pink and green nine patches that I will have to get done before I can plan the coping strip to go between the Ohio Stars and it. I may change those Ohio Stars and put a coping strip between. I don't know, the way it is sort of grates on me a little. David likes it. He however, is an uncritical viewer so I can't really get anything definite from him. I will see what Ambrosina says, she has no problem with telling me if something doesn't look right, which is why I value having her opinion. She's usually right too.

I'll think about it until tomorrow. If I don't grow to like it I can always take them off and use them somewhere else. I only have sixteen with that background and no more of the fabric. Meanwhile I can still hunt out the nine patches and go to work on them.

Spring cleaning is coming along pretty good. I can see the workbench! And the treadle. And it's warm enough to work down here in the evenings again. Wow!

Spring cleaning is going on even if we are not having a Spring this year. We had a blizzard on Tuesday. Ambrosina is cleaning out the attic and brought down stuff I had forgotten I have. We have a whole truck load to take to Goodwill.

Although I don't think it is wise for Ambrosina to take her maternity clothes and the baby clothes to Goodwill, I always got pregnant as soon as I did that.

She also found a tub of quilt scraps that someone had given her. She says she doesn't have time to quilt and said David and I could fight over them, ha ha.
There are some pieced blocks which I will use on the backs of quilts when I piece a back. I have had a lot of fun going through them, I needed a fresh infusion in my small stash.

Meanwhile down here, I had to have space to put things she brought down, although I am not keeping a lot of what she found, I need a place to put what I am keeping. So I am cleaning down here too, although slower than what she is doing.
I moved the TV to the closet shelf. The plan is to made sliding doors and use them for my design wall.
I brought both the treadle and the New Home Vintage into the bedroom. We plan to get a smaller heater for the bedroom so we can afford to heat it and then I can get more done down here.
Although I have a lot of stuff yet to put away, I did get my small stash organized and the yardage wound onto cardboard so I can see what I have.

You can't see it but my workbench is under there somewhere. I moved it in from the dungeon part of the basement so I can work on my stained glass and jewelry where it is warmer, more light and less dirt.

As can be seen I have a long way to go, but I am getting there.

Meanwhile, it's supposed to be getting warmer, so maybe I can get some work down here done.

There's my weaving to look forward to, when it is warmer.

I am so ready for Spring!

Thursday, April 12, 2018

Well, here I am, nearly two weeks on. My stress levels have been high so I have just been sitting at the machine working away at the UFOs. I am getting close to having everything but the quilts done. Except for the projects that have parts missing. Those I have sorted into a smaller tub until I find them, if I ever do. At least the tub is only about half full of those!
I finished this on Tuesday. This is a very old UFO, but not one of mine. It was given to Ambrosina a long time ago and I finally got around to quilting it. She doesn't know who made it, but I give praise to the unknown quilt maker for her wonderful use of color. This quilt sings. I can tell it was made of recycled fabrics. The squares were cut before rotary cutters. They weren't all exactly the same size. The seams don't match perfectly, even with all that, this is a lovely quilt and I am sure she did the best she could. Ambrosina is glad to have it.
I even used all one piece on the back. It was nice that I had a large enough piece of blue to fit, I don't often.

We are expecting a blizzard tomorrow. We are supposed to get up to fourteen inches of snow. I've given up on spring. I think everyone else has too.

I saw the specialist on Wednesday, my kidney function is down to about 27 percent. At my age it should be about 77 percent. She came to nothing conclusive and is awaiting the results of some tests that I had done yesterday and an ultrasound I had this morning. She said I have to go off one of my diabetic medications and I am waiting to hear from my endochronologist.

These are some of the things I have gotten done. There are a lot more partially done, but they are dolls that need stuffing and I have to finish some more quilts so I have scraps of batting to fill them up with.

Still no car, Leon told David that the computer might need to be reset and to do that you take the positive connection off the battery, wait a few minutes and connect it back up. It starts up once and then we have to do that again. Not trustworthy, David is not motivated to do much with it right now, especially since it's electrical. The electrics on the cars have always given been difficult for him and it takes a real good reason to get started at it. Usually it's me having a fit because I don't have a car but I am not up to it right now. Next week is supposed to be warmer and I will firmly encourage him to call our son who is an auto mechanic and talk to him about what it could be. If he know what is good for him that is.

So with an end to all the little UFOs in sight, I have been pulling out fabrics to make myself some clothes. I need them but I was feeling so overwhelmed with all the stuff that needed finishing I didn't feel like working on them. Now, since it's mostly quilts waiting to be done, and I'll be working away on those too, I feel more like making some clothes. Something to look forward to since we aren't going to have a Spring!
